Things You'll Need
Call your utility, telephone, cable/satellite and Internet providers about transferring service to your new address no less than two weeks before your move. Remember to tell them your move-in date at the new location. Go to the post office and fill out a change of address card.
Tell your service providers you have moved into the new apartment, and test to see that all utilities are working properly.
Painting Your Apartment
If you decide that you would like to paint any of the walls or rooms in your apartment with a color other than what is already on the walls, you are required to obtain prior written consent.
Renter’s insurance
Residents, whether well off or just getting by, should carry renter’s insurance. Renter’s insurance is relatively inexpensive. Anybody who has life insurance or car insurance should have renter’s insurance. Renters don’t understand that they’re responsible if they start a grease fire in a kitchen and not only for their unit, but for the unit next door and any others that are damaged because the property owner is not required to take care of any losses they may suffer. Please note that if there are unmarried roommates, each roommate must have their own policy.
